CAL5 — Support

Last updated: 19 September 2026

CAL5 is a food, exercise and nutrition tracker. This page is how you reach a human about it.

Email jasonsoh91@gmail.com with the word CAL5 in the subject line. One person reads that inbox, so a reply usually takes a day or two rather than an hour.

What to include, if you have it:

Common questions

The numbers look wrong

They are estimates. CAL5 reads a photograph and works out what is on the plate and roughly how much of it — it is not weighing anything. Every meal carries a confidence rating for exactly this reason.

You can fix any of it. Open the meal, tap an ingredient and change its weight in grams; the calories and macros rescale immediately. If the dish itself was identified wrongly, use Fix results and say what it actually was, in your own words — your hand-set weights are kept.

A scan failed

The analysis runs on a server, so a scan needs a working internet connection. If you are online and it still fails, the service may be briefly busy — the app says which of the two happened. Your photo is saved either way; you do not need to take it again.

I can't get the camera to work

If you tapped Don't Allow when the camera permission was asked for, the app cannot ask you again — that is the operating system's rule, not ours. Open your phone's Settings, find CAL5, and turn Camera on. The permission screen in the app has a button that takes you straight there.

You never need the camera, though: Library analyses a photo you already took, and Describe works from typed words alone.

A barcode isn't recognised

Barcodes are looked up in Open Food Facts, a free public database maintained by volunteers. Coverage is good in Europe and patchy elsewhere, and many Malaysian products are simply not in it yet. When a product is missing, photograph its nutrition label instead — that path reads the panel directly.

Where is my data, and how do I delete it?

Your food diary, exercise log, weight history and progress photos are stored only on your phone. There is no account and no cloud copy.

Delete everything with Profile → Delete account & all data, or by uninstalling the app. Because nothing is stored on a server, that deletion is final — we cannot restore it for you, and there is nothing for us to delete at our end.

Full detail is in the privacy policy.

Is CAL5 medical advice?

No. CAL5 is not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat or prevent any condition, and nothing in it is medical advice. If you have a medical condition, are pregnant, or are managing your weight under supervision, talk to a qualified health professional before changing what you eat. CAL5 is not intended for anyone under 18.

Reporting a bug or asking for a feature

Same address: jasonsoh91@gmail.com. Bug reports that say which screen you were on and what you tapped get fixed considerably faster than ones that do not.
